12/9/2023 0 Comments Woman on train railsI was not at a crossing, there was no fence, etc. I was in a city one day taking pictures of graffiti on train cars in an idling train. I really think too much has been made of this particular matter.Įveryone seems to think they'll hear a train coming and have time to get off the tracks but it isn't always so. Prudence dictates that one should avoid standing or walking on railroad tracks, but a quick shot when the track is clear and there is clear vision in both directions seems to me to be rather harmless, setting aside the fact that such an act may be criminal trespass on rail property. In addition the N.G Instagram in question simply gives the photographer's name and the text does not encourage others to do the same thing or suggest that the model or photographer is or should be a role model. Geographic image shows a woman standing on the track in the middle of a clear straightaway with what appears to be clear vision both ways. The photo shown in the news report of the accident, shows her as happy as can be down-track below a blind curve looking away from the curve at the camera. The rail death involved an aspiring model. I just clicked on the links in the DPReview article. The gender argument should burn in the pile of politically and gender correct nonsense. And people should stop doing those dumb things for their own safely and in consideration of the people that love them. So YES, there are truly dumb things in this world. How many women and men have died taking selfies in various cliffs, bridges, etc. Condoms campaigns? Yup, again because people do dumb things. Should we not care'? Of course we should. Kids have dumb sex and make babies they shouldn't. The public notice is valid, because, hey, people do dumb things. You're adding that narrative into it, and it just derails the conversation. It doesn't have ANYTHING to do with being a woman either.that's sjw territory. Man, woman, ape, chicken or deer, its not a good idea to be on those tracks if they are active. No, he's not correct.that's just how you PERSONALLY feel. With all due respect.that view doesn't make any sense. Unfortunately, there are many, many examples of why this is not a good idea. Regardless of the circumstances surrounding this particular photo, publishing it to a much-respected and much-followed account could lead others to think taking this kind of photo is a good idea. But many other commenters are expressing approval, and the photo has well over 485,000 likes. Plenty of Nat Geo's Instagram followers have apparently heard the message and taken it to heart, judging by the numerous negative comments posted in response to the photo. As a recent Today Show segment reminded us, despite their size trains are surprisingly quiet and may not be heard until it's too late. Taking photos on active train tracks, or putting your subjects on train tracks, is illegal and dangerous. One more time for everyone in the back: Don't take photos on train tracks. Not even a month after another tragic, well-publicized incident, National Geographic is coming under fire for posting a photo of a woman standing on train tracks at sunset to its Instagram account. And it bears repeating because apparently, it hasn't gotten through. If you feel like you've been hearing this message a lot lately, it's because you have.
